Plantation Interiors' model offers sophisticated cottage feel
Hilton Head Island interior design firm Plantation Interiors has created a "model home" inside the company's showroom, to showcase trends that embrace a sophisticated cottage look. The model includes a foyer, living area, dining area and master bedroom.
Partners with Plantation Interiors in the project include a rug company, two award-winning artists, a lighting store and a fabrication team.
The white walls are enhanced by textured fabrics that feature geometrics, marsh greens, black and gray accents, ikot and berry, pink and orange. Ikot is a method of giving pattern and color to cloth in which the threads are tie-dyed before the cloth is woven.
Oyster shells are used in a unique way on a pair of sconces and a chandelier. The fixtures were designed and manufactured exclusively for the Light Post of Bluffton and are debuting here. Light Post owner Becky Bracket named the line Low Country Lighting Originals because each piece includes materials from the Lowcountry. The chandelier in the model is called The Plantation.
The floor is reclaimed antique heart pine installed by The Culver Rug Company. The company also provided the seagrass arrowhead rug for the living room, a custom-painted sisal for the foyer and an ebony, chocolate and berry striped wool rug for the dining room.
Joe Doolan painted the walls of the model to resemble textured plaster, using the painting styles of trompe l'oeil and faux finishing. He also painted a marble finish on the fireplace surround and a Lowcountry scene for above the mantel.
