“The Late Show” host Stephen Colbert sent a team to San Jose, Calif., to interview players gearing up for this Sunday’s Super Bowl about how they get pumped for the game.
After making a little fun of quarterback Cam Newton for his use of the phrase "oval-shaped pigskin", the bit advances through a series of Panthers and Broncos players explaining how they get hyped. Something tells us they scripted the responses.
Newton, for example, says he puts on a tiny crown and looks in the mirror to ask, “Who’s the prince of football? ME!”
Does Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib really wake up every morning at 4 a.m. to hit garage sales? Well, that’s what he says: “Nothing else gets me going like paying only $2 for a used crockpot."
A perfectly deadpan Panthers running back Jonathan Stewart explains how you should “always gives 110 percent until you realize that's not actually possible. Then you just give 100 percent."
And linebacker Luke Kuechly’s pregame routine apparently includes pounding six cans of seltzer and belching the alphabet. Then, he says, he's "ready to rumble."
