Hilton Head Dance Theatre's annual production of "The Nutcracker" opens Nov. 15 at the Seahawk Cultural Center on the campus of Hilton Head Island High School.
Sharing the role of the Sugar Plum Fairy are Catherine Walsh and Abby Stinson. They will dance with returning guest artist Andrew Murphy, a former principal dancer with the Houston Ballet. Cast in the role of the Snow Queen is Emily Vaughan and in the role of the Snow King is Malachi Squires, formerly with Texas Ballet Theatre.
David Greenberg of the Columbia Classical Ballet joins the cast this year as the Nutcracker. Lowcountry native Jamal Edwards returns in his key role as the Mouse King as well as Soldier Doll, Marzipan and Flower Soloist. Robert Eberly, a former dance with the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, returns in his role as the mysterious Herr Drosselmeyer.
"This year's production will include quite a bit of brand new choreography -- completely new and original pieces," said Karena Brock-Carlyle, who is artistic director along with her husband, John Carlyle.
Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 15, 16, 22 and 23 and 2:30 p.m. Nov. 17 and 23. Tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for seniors (60 and older) and students (13-18) and $15 for children. Tickets are available online at www.hiltonheaddance.com
