The Art League of Hilton Head presents "Fresh Paint," new watercolor paintings by Alexandra Sharma, through Nov. 2 at Walter Greer Gallery at the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina, 14 Shelter Cove Lane, Hilton Head Island. An opening reception will be held 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 10 at the gallery.
Sharma describes the act of painting as a journey with an unknown destination.
"When I am painting on site I am inspired and eager to compose my observations and impressions as directly as I can. On occasion I have run out of water to rinse my brush and have used pond or sea water â€" whatever was available â€" so as to work uninterrupted while in the groove," she said.
She has spent more than 25 years painting and sculpting while conducting painting workshops, teaching art in Toronto and more recently in Beaufort and on Hilton Head at the University of South Carolina Beaufort and the Art League of Hilton Head Academy. Her artwork can be found in numerous private collections, the city of Toronto's corporate collection, and in the University of South Carolina Beaufort, Pritchard's Island collection. Locally, her work can be seen in the Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn, at the Charles Street Gallery in Beaufort. Among her awards is a "first in class" at the International Woodcarver's Show, Canadian National Exhibition, Toronto, Canada.
