Candice Glover painted the town pink on Thursday night.
The season 12 "American Idol" winner and St. Helena Island native performed on a pink stage amid palmetto trees decorated in pink lights at the "Candice for a Cure" breast cancer awareness concert at Tanger Outlet Center I in Bluffton.
Her appearance helped raise $16,000 for Beaufort Memorial Hospital's Keyserling Cancer Center.
Glover opened the show -- her first in Beaufort County since her hometown concert and parade in May -- with "I Am Beautiful," her "Idol" coronation and first single. Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th employees threw open the doors to the store so they could hear her sing.
Never miss a local story.
Midway through the concert, Glover invited two friends to dance with her on stage for her performance of "In the Middle," a song off her first album, "Music Speaks," which is expected to be released Oct. 8.
She finished her 45-minute set with a cover of Tom Jones' "I Who Have Nothing," which she sang during the Top 10 episode of "Idol" to great acclaim.
"Thank you so much," Glover told the crowd before leaving the stage. "I love you, each and every one of you. Thank you."
An estimated 1,500 people were at the free concert, which was preceded by a $20-a-ticket pre-show VIP party.
Eight hundred people bought tickets to the "Pink Partini." Attendees crowded under a white tent ahead of the concert to take pictures with Glover, get autographs and hear a Q&A session with the star in the outlet center's parking lot.
"I'm so happy to be home, singing here after eight months," Glover told the pre-party crowd.
Mary Bruns and Paulina Dixon, who attended the party and concert together, said they were inspired by Glover's success. Both are students at Beaufort High School, where Glover graduated in 2008 before going on to win "Idol."
"It's crazy to think she walked the same halls as we did," Dixon said.
Bruns said the school's walls are plastered with Candice Glover posters and that announcements were made last school year to vote for Glover on "Idol."
Ladonna Shamlou, general manager of Tanger, said the event went smoothly and without major issues.
All of it "thanks to months of planning and our incredible vendors," Shamlou said. "It was a lot of hard work, but definitely worth it."
