There's nothing wrong with a some healthy competition among friends -- or even spouses.
Newlyweds Cara Swanson Myers and P.J. Myers have been competing against each other for years. The two local bartenders have worked in rival establishments for most of their adult lives. And now that they are married, that's not going to change.
Cara works for The Westin Hilton Head Island Resort & Spa, and her husband works for Old Fort Pub.
Recently, that competition became a bit more intense. The two went up against each other in the Concours d'Elegance Cartini Challenge.
Bartenders from 14 local restaurants participated in the challenge, concocting car-themed drinks using Ketel One Vodka.
The winner was chosen online after voters sampled the drinks in the restaurants.
As it turned out, Cara won with her creation, The Cayenne. The drink is named after the Porsche Cayenne and will be featured in the Cartini Lounge at the Hilton Head Island Motoring Festival & Concours d'Elegance on Nov. 3 to 4.
Cara said she will serve 1,000 drinks on those two days.
"It's very exciting," she said.
For the record, her husband has been a good sport and even offered to help her serve drinks at the event.
"He's not too sore of a loser," she said.
