• Michael C. Riley Elementary School will hold its Riley Run Pep Rally on Nov. 6. The event is designed to teach students the importance of fitness, education and character.Students will be collecting pledges for their Riley Run.

In other school news, the School Improvement Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 2 at the M. C. Riley library.Parents and members of the community are invited to the meeting to work together on improvement of the school.

There will be a meeting for parents of Project REACH (Reaching Every African-American Child and Home) at 6 p.m. Nov. 5 in the multipurpose room.Dr. Sean Alford with be guest speaker.

• Noel Coward's "Blithe Spirit" will open at the May River Theatre at 8 p.m. Nov. 6 and continue with evening performances on Nov. 7, 13-14, 20-21 and 3 p.m. matinees Nov. 8, 15 and 22. All performances will be in Bluffton Town Hall's Ulmer Auditorium at the corner of Pritchard and Bridge streets in downtown Bluffton. • Tickets for The Hilton Head Dance Theatre's production of "The Nutcracker," which runs Nov. 7-15 at the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina, are on sale. The ballet features the school's nearly 300 students, as well as guest professional artists.

Tickets are $26 for adults and $17 for 18 and under. A $5 facility fee is applied by the arts center for each ticket.

• Friends of Bluffton Dog Park are looking for sponsors, vendors and volunteers for Bark in the Park, a fundraising event for dogs and their families. It will be held Nov. 7 at Oscar Frazier Park in Bluffton, and includes games, prizes, food, bounce houses, a silent auction, live entertainment and more.

• Pianist Xiayin Wang will make her South Carolina debut in a recital at 8 p.m. Oct. 30 at the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina, 14 Shelter Cove Lane.Wang will perform selections from her recent CD, "Scriabin Piano Music." The program will also include works by Haydn, Chopin, Debussy, Gershwin and Ravel.

• The Bluffton Historical Preservation Society will sponsor an All Saints Eve Cemetery Clean Up from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 31 in the Bluffton Cemetery off May River Road. Bring your own rakes, gloves and gardening tools. Community service hours are available, but you must stay throughout the entire cleanup. Appropriate holiday costumes are optional.

• The Bluffton Boys & Girls Club's parent group, I.M.P.A.C.T., will host its second annual oyster roast from 3 to 7 p.m. Nov. 7 at the club, 100 H.E. McCracken Circle. The adults-only event, which is open to the public, will feature all-you-can-eat oysters, barbecue and sides and a wine and beer cash bar. The Bluffton Oyster Co. will cater the event. There will be an oyster-shucking contest and a "fastest human oyster-eating contest." A disc jokey will provide entertainment.

Tickets are $30 each, $50 a couple or $250 for a table of 10. Tickets are available at the club, Bluffton Oyster Co., All-Pro Tire & Lube Center, Major League Barber Shop or by calling 843-757-2845. Off-site babysitting will be available for $10 a child at Kids College, 17 Goethe Road. To sign up, call 843-476-1086 (minimum of 15 children). Parking will be available at Bluffton Elementary School with a shuttle bus to the oyster roast.

• Recovery Management Associates, an outpatient addiction program based in Bluffton, has classes scheduled for November, including "Getting Stuck in Recovery," "Families Living with Addiction" and "Early to Middle Recovery." The four-week classes start the week of Nov. 9. Cost is $160; reservations required.
