Hilton Head Christian football: At a glance
Stadium name: Eagle Stadium
Region: SCISAA Region 2-AA.
Coach (years at school): Tommy Lewis, 6th year.
Coach’s overall record (record at school): 56-39 (42-20); 2006 SCISAA Class 2-A champions, 2007 SCISAA Class 2-A runners-up.
Coaching staff: Vinnie Emery, Shannon Smith, Todd Malphrus, Freddy Mitchell, Benny Mullins, Mike Davis, Smittie Cooler, Bo Sherwood.
Notable personnel losses from 2007: WR/DB William Cubbage, leading receiver (45 catches), third-leading rusher, second-leading passer; Jeffrey Reichel, 22 receptions; LB Jared Turner, led team with 137 tackles; P Jack Davis. Returning starters/lettermen: 9/10.
Top returning starters: QB/DB Joey Davis, leading rusher with 789 yards, leading passer with 1,346 yards; RB Zac Lenns, 454 rushing yards; WR/LB Ethan Gort, 48 tackles, 7.5 sacks, 2 INTs.
Coach’s prognosis: With the toughest SCISAA 2-AA region ever and our most inexperienced team since arriving five years ago, we will have to work extremely hard on the fundamentals, execution and team unity and chemistry. I am confident we can fulfill our football program credo — honor God and compete.
