A Daufuskie Island couple have now twice had their pets shot.

The latest incident occurred sometime Tuesday when the couple's pet pig was shot in the rear with a shotgun, said Capt. Toby McSwain of the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

The pig was kept in a pen at the Prospect Hill Lane home of Tyler Gerow and Beth Shipman. They could not be reached for comment Wednesday.

Authorities say they have several potential culprits in mind and are investigating.

"We've got some people we're looking at," McSwain said.

Last August, the couple's exotic bird was shot and killed. The bird had been allowed to roam free, and was somewhat of a fixture on the remote, tight-knit island. No charges ever were filed in that incident.
