Fort Jackson commanding general gets 2nd star

The Associated PressJuly 18, 2014

— The commanding general of the Army's largest training installation is getting promoted to two-star rank.

Friday's ceremony honoring Brig. Gen. Bradley Becker is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at Victory Field at Fort Jackson.

Army spokesman Pat Jones says President Barack Obama nominates officers to the rank, and the U.S. Senate confirms the appointment.

Becker, a veteran of three deployments to Iraq, took command of the post in August 2013.

Fort Jackson puts more than 50,000 new soldiers through basic and advance training every year and is the center of several other Army schools.
