A Hilton Head Island woman was injured early Tuesday morning when the car she was traveling in wrecked on the island, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.

The 2012 Porsche was traveling on Wide Water Road shortly after midnight when it ran off the right side of the road and struck several mailboxes and a tree, Senior Trooper Hannah Wimberly said.

The passenger, 40-year-old Virginia Allen, was airlifted to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, Wimberly said. She was in good condition Wednesday, according to a hospital spokesman.

The driver, 36-year-old Nicole O'Brien of Hilton Head Island, was not injured, according to Wimberly. She was charged with driving too fast for conditions, Wimberly said.
