Two ex-employees of a Port Royal restaurant were charged Tuesday with robbing their former employer Sunday, according to a Port Royal Police Department news release.

Port Royal residents Kendel Johnson, 21, and Franklin Bates, 21, allegedly entered the Back Porch Grill, 1 Port Royal Landing Drive, at about 8:30 a.m., held an employee at gunpoint and demanded money, the release said.

They drove off in a dark gray vehicle with two bags containing an undisclosed amount of money, the release said. They were arrested Tuesday on charges of armed robbery and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Bates and Johnson are both former employees of Back Porch Grill, and officers learned that Bates owned a vehicle matching the description of the getaway car, the release said.

Bates and Johnson are being held for prosecution at the Beaufort County Detention Center, according to the jail log. Bond information was not available.
