A Beaufort woman was charged with child neglect after leaving four children at a Chuck E. Cheese's restaurant while she went shopping Friday, according to a Charleston Police Department report.

Meriana Martin, 47, left four children at the Charleston restaurant at about 2 p.m. An employee asked Martin if she was leaving, and she replied that she would be right back, the report said.

Officers responded to the restaurant at 1610 Sam Rittenberg Blvd. at about 3:30 p.m. after an employee reported the incident. An officer met with the four children, ages 4 to 9, and the oldest said their mother had dropped them off while she went shopping at Costco.

Officers attempted to reach Martin several times. Contact was finally made at about 4 p.m., the report said.

Martin returned to the restaurant and admitted to leaving the children while she went shopping. The restaurant's policy states, "No one under the age of 18 will be permitted on the premises without a parent or legal guardian."

Martin was released from the Charleston County Detention Center on bond. Bond information was not available.
