A 22-year-old man was arrested in connection with a series of car break-ins in a Beaufort subdivision overnight Thursday, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

At least 16 vehicles were entered in Iron Gate, though Brian Fillinger of Beaufort has only been charged with one count of breaking and entering a vehicle, Sgt. Robin McIntosh said.

A victim told deputies he chased Fillinger away from his car at about 11 p.m. Fillinger was found in the area on the back of a moped, McIntosh said.

He was being held Friday in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $10,000 bond, according to the jail log.

The moped driver, a 25-year-old Beaufort man, was arrested for no driver's license. He posted a $237.50 bond Friday.

Investigators are collecting evidence to determine whether more charges will be filed against the pair, McIntosh said.
