Two teenagers were charged in connection with a car break-in on Hilton Head Island early Friday, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

Oliver Almazan, 19, of Bluffton and Austin Yago, 17, of Okatie were charged with breaking into a car, fleeing to evade law enforcement and possession of marijuana, according to court records. They were arrested after a witness reported seeing them use a flashlight to look into cars on Jarvis Creek Court at about 1:40 a.m., Sgt. Robin McIntosh said.

Almazan and Yago ran when they saw deputies but were quickly caught, McIntosh said. Almazan was carrying a black iPod that was reported missing from one of the cars, prompting deputies to charge him with petit larceny, as well.

Both remained at the Beaufort County Detention Center Friday -- Almazan on a $8,842.50 bond and Yago on a $6,712.50 bond.

The arrests came the same day as a scheduled court appearance for Almazan, who was out on bond on kidnapping and third-degree assault and battery charges. That case, in which he is accused of beating and holding his girlfriend against her will, is pending.
