Two children, both under 2 years of age, were rescued Wednesday afternoon after they became locked in a car on Hilton Head Island, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office report.

Their father, a 44-year-old Delaware, Ohio man, called the Hilton Head Island Fire & Rescue Division about 8:30 p.m. when his children became locked in the rental car and he did not have a spare key, the report said.

A few minutes later, at the father's request, Lt. Jason Walters cut a hole in the front passenger window to open the car door and remove the children.

Both were deemed healthy by EMS, according to the report.
