Runway extension to occur no matter what

newsroom@islandpacket.comJuly 8, 2014

It looks like the airport runway extension is a done deal no matter what opponents say. Maybe the people who got into political office, promising to help the cause, did nothing.

To me, it is a waste of time and money to build something with no guarantee of future services. U.S. Air could move out of Hilton Head the day after completion. And we would have an airport for private jets.

I suppose that's the real reason for the extension in the first place. Well, I guess owners of private planes can do what they want as long as there are curfews and their planes adhere to the current decibels levels like the rest of the businesses on the island. They wouldn't want any lawsuits brought for breaking nuisance laws. That might drag out in the courts for years, not to mention the negative publicity Hilton Head might get when people protest in front of the airport.

Remember, the sound you hear is the sound of money.
