Next time you're at a Hollywood 'It' party, make sure you hit bathroom for best gossip

  • SPINACH CASSEROLE



    Makes: 6 servings



    3 boxes chopped spinach

    1 small Vidalia onion, chopped

    1 can Campbell's condensed mushroom soup

    1 cup grated sharp white cheddar

    1 cup Hellmann's mayonnaise

    3 eggs, well beaten



    Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Cook spinach and onion together in a small amount of water for 5 to 6 minutes. Drain well. Mix soup, cheese and mayonnaise in a large bowl. Add spinach and eggs mix well. Pour into greased casserole and top with buttered crumbs if you like. Bake for 40 minutes.

I have had the good fortune to know one of the most amazing people in the world. This crazy person has the most amazing sense of humor in spite of so many hurtles thrown her way. Nancy Wellard is a treasure. I can not tell you how marvelous she is and what a gift she is to everyone who has ever had the pleasure to have her for a friend.

Nancy has been such a great force in the fight to find a cure for cancer. This year is the 100th anniversary of the American Cancer Society. What a wonderful milestone and, of course, Nancy is on the trail of all who can help.

Mark your calendar for Oct. 25 for a wonderful gala at the Sonesta Resort Hilton Head Island. The gala will be black tie and so much fun. There will be a lovely supper, drinks, dancing, and silent and live auctions. So save the date. More information will be forthcoming.

Nancy, party animal that she is, told me about a fun event she was at recently in Los Angeles. She was at the reunion of schoolmates she had not seen for 50 years. The party was held at Herb Alpert's restaurant and grill, Vibrato Grill on Mulholland Drive. It just so happened Charlize Theron and Seth MacFarlane were also there celebrating the opening of their new movie "A Million Ways To Die in the Old West."

Seth sang lots of Johnny Mercer tunes and lots of whiskey shots were passed around. A fabulous time was had by all. Nancy said the best place to be always at events like these is in the "loo." There are fabulous shoes, fabulous duds, and so much wonderful insider gossip we can't mention. Go behind the scenes -- oh to be a fly on the wall.

  • Anna Pepper and Jason Hewitt are the parents of three adorable babies. Never in the history of Bluffton has any one human being had three babies the age of one year just for one week. Anna and Jason happily greeted the arrival of Addison and Pepper their adorable twin daughters two years ago. When Addison and Pepper were teeny weeny their darling mother and father found they were expecting one more bundle from the stork. That meant the stork who had just delivered two bundles had to scoot back to Bluffton in nine months. No problem. The old bird knew the way; baby Vivian arrived on the Bluffton scene 51 weeks later. So we had three babies last week who were all having their birthday celebrations under one loving roof. Two and one make three.

  • Lynda and Christopher Walker popped over the pond for a visit with their friends Kate and Mike Hughes. Lynda and Christopher live in Buckinghamshire, England. Kate, Mike, Lynda and Christopher have been friends for more than 20 years after having met in South America. The quartet alternate vacation spots every two years or so. Lynda and Christopher spent lots of time bobbing up and down in the May River at the sandbar, traveling to Charleston and biking at Palmetto Bluff. They are charming and promised, for me, to bid the queen a "howdy doo."

  • There is a very interesting snippet I would like to pass on about the World Cup now being played in Brazil. The turfgrass at the soccer match was bred at the University of Georgia. If you would like to know more about it, go to UGA's website at www.uga.edu. Go DAWGS!

  • Myrtle Island was once again the setting for another beautiful Bluffton soiree. Margaret Golson Pearman and her mama, Nancy, treated Margaret's sister-in-law Teresa Pearman to a beautiful wedding shower several weeks ago. Nancy and Margaret decorated the house with festoons of pink and flowers galore to not only celebrate the bride-to-be, but also the October arrival of Margaret and husband, Chris', first child. The scene was set for a lovely summer afternoon on the river. The party began with peach bellinis. Then the guests were served delicious pickled shrimp, Jeanne Lee's mandarin orange salad, finger sandwiches and more of those great bellinis. The party also included silly games and the sharing of many funny stories. Teresa is a designer who works at Winslow Kitchen Designs and calls Bluffton home. She is planning an Aug. 4 wedding at a private home in Cashiers, N.C., and is thrilled to have the honor of wearing her grandmother's wedding dress. Just another day in paradise.
