A kitchen fire at a Beaufort restaurant prompted an evacuation and road closures Saturday evening, according to the Beaufort-Port Royal Fire Department.

Eastbound lanes of Boundary Street were temporarily closed as firefighters extinguished flames at Wendy's restaurant about 5:30 p.m. spokesman John Robinson said.

The cause and extent of the fire was not immediately known.

No one was injured, Robinson said, though customers were inside the restaurant when the fire occurred.

In addition to Beaufort-Port Royal Fire, the Burton Fire District, the Beaufort Police Department, Beaufort County EMS and the Beaufort County Sheriff's Department assisted at the scene.
