Golf notebook, July 3: Mackay, Miles, Nimmers qualify for SCGA S.C. Amateur

Bluffton's Cameron Mackay fired a 4-under-par 67 on June 30 at Coosaw Creek Country Club to earn medalist honors at the S.C. Golf Association Amateur Championship qualifying site.

The top 30 players at the qualifier earned entry to the S.C. Amateur, which will be held July 31-Aug. 3 at the Reserve Golf Club in Pawley's Island. Bluffton's Tony Nimmer and Bryson Nimmer also qualified.

Tony shot 1-over 72 to tie for seventh.

Hilton Head Island's Tyler Williams (72), Tate Hoisington (73) and Kevin Wargo (75) also qualified at Coosaw Creek, a 6,500-yard layout in North Charleston.

Hilton Head's Will Miles shot 1-under 71 on Wednesday to qualify at Three Pines Country Club in Woodruff.

The qualifier was the second of four. Another qualifier will be held in Manning on July 7 and the final qualifier will be played at Country Club of Lexington on July 7.

Bluffton's J.D. Lehman and J.D. Hoft are already in the field.


The Hilton Head Island Amateur Golf Association will hold its better-ball championship on July 19 and 20 at Moss Creek's North Course.

The tournament will include a championship division, handicap divisions and senior division so that players of all skill levels can participate. The winning team in championship division will earn a berth in the Honors Cup.
