Trash collector bitten by dog on Hilton Head

A trash collector was bitten by a dog Tuesday while working on Hilton Head Island, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

The victim, 44, was working on Queens Folly Road in Palmetto Dunes about 7:30 p.m. when a brown and white pit bull-type dog ran at him and bit his leg, the report said.

The dog was being walked by a small boy but had broken free from his leash, according to the report.

The dog's owner, a 29-year-old Hilton Head Island woman, gave the man her contact information and took the dog inside, the report said.

The victim was treated at the scene for two puncture wounds in his lower calf.The Sheriff's Office reported the animal bite to the Department of Health and Environmental Control.
