The driver in a single-vehicle accident that occurred Monday afternoon in Sheldon died Tuesday, according to Beaufort County Coroner Ed Allen.

Eloise Finnie, 76, of Sheldon was traveling south on Paige Point Road near Paige Point Bluff about 5:30 p.m. when her 2002 Mercury Voyager ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree, Allen and Sgt. Bob Beres of the S.C. Highway Patrol said.

Finnie, who was wearing a seat belt, was airlifted to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah but died Tuesday, according to Allen and Beres.

Beres did not release the cause of the wreck, which remains under investigation.
