Hilton Head defeated Walterboro 14-5 in five innings on Saturday morning to win the Dixie Youth Baseball Minors District 8 tournament in Walterboro.

With the victory, Hilton Head clinches a berth in the state tournament to begin July 18 in Florence.

Jackson Philpot pitched a complete game for Hilton Head in the win.

"He threw a beautiful, beautiful game," Hilton Head manager Adam Markowitz said.

Hilton Head jumped on Walterboro early, scoring six runs in the top of the first.

"We put the pressure on right off the bat," Markowitz said. "They scored four in the bottom of the first, but then we locked it down on defense and pitching and the bats stayed hot.

"We hit the ball beautifully today."

In addition to Philpot, the rest of the Hilton Head roster includes Jace Blackshear, James Layman, Grant Musselman, JuJu Mlodzinski, Kyle Markowitz, Jake Richardson, Jack Boyce, Eli Minton, Reymar Matos, Nick Larson and Mark Knight.

Adam Markowitz is assisted by coaches Rod Musselman and Reymar Matos.
