One person was killed and two others seriously injured in a wreck Wednesday on Interstate 95 north of Yemassee, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.

A 2014 Dodge Durango collided with a 2004 Ford F-250, injuring both drivers, at 9:35 a.m., Senior Trooper Hannah Wimberly said.

A passenger in the Dodge died at the scene, Wimberly said. Attempts to reach the Colleton County Coroner's Office to determine the passenger's identity were unsuccessful.

The wreck occurred on southbound I-95 at mile marker 41, Wimberly said.

The Dodge's driver was airlifted to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, Wimberly said. The driver of the Ford was airlifted to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

Traffic was backed up for more than four hours. No further details were released.
