More coverage needed of ballot questions

newsroom@islandpacket.comJune 24, 2014

The newspaper's coverage of the primaries was inadequate. Readers needed explanations for the questions on the Republican and Democrat ballots ahead of the vote as well as results afterwards. For example, the first question on the Republican ballot was confusing. The question was about abortion rights -- but voting yew or not was not that easy because of the way the question was phrased.

And the second question basically asked if Republican voters would like to lower taxes. Of course most of us voted yes. But it did not say where/how a reduction in taxes would be offset.

The newspaper should have done a better job covering these questions.
