Rex Garniewicz was been named the Coastal Discovery Museum's president and CEO, the museum's board of directors announced Saturday.

Garniewicz, selected after a national search, replaces Michael Marks, who is retiring after 12 years as CEO.

Garniewicz, who will assume his new post July 1, most recently served as deputy director at the San Diego Museum of Man.

He has also served on the American Alliance of Museum Curators' Committee, lectured for the Seminar for Historical Administration and worked in Kyrgyzstan on a U.S. State Department project to help preserve the country's cultural heritage.
