54-hole test ahead for top golfers at HHIAGA Amateur

The Hilton Head Island Amateur Championship's new format will mean a longer weekend for competitors.

The Hilton Head Island Amateur Golf Association event, which starts Saturday at Bear Creek Golf Club, opens with 36 holes before Sunday's final round.

It's the first time the tournament has stretched 54 holes for the championship division. The senior and flighted divisions will remain 36 holes.

Players will compete for Bear Creek gift certificates. The champion earns a berth in the Players Amateur.

Details: Tee times posted at bearcreekgolfclub.org/hilton-head-amateur or through the association's website at hhiaga.com. Champion earns a berth in the Players Amateur. Defending champion J.D. Hoft, who will compete in next month's Players Amateur, is again in the field.
