— Thieves broke into 21 cars in two Lake Wylie neighborhoods overnight, deputies say, stealing money and other valuables from glove boxes and center consoles.

Authorities believe the cars were broken into early Monday, according to a York County Sheriff's Office news release.

The thieves struck at the Lake Wylie Woods complex, where 14 cars were reportedly entered, the release states. Seven cars were broken into at the Hamilton's Bay Condominiums.

Most of the cars were broken into via a punched-out side window, the release states, but three of the cars were unlocked.

The thieves mainly took money and other valuables they could find in glove compartments and center consoles. Some items, deputies say, were left out in the open.

Deputies are currently investigating the break-ins and asks if anyone feels they have been a victim of a car break-in in this area to report it to 803-628-3059.

If anyone has information about who may have committed this crime they are asked to contact the Sheriff’s office or Crime Stoppers of York County at 1-877-409-4321.
