Filing for Hilton Head Town council, mayor opens July 31

Filing for those who intend to run for Hilton Head Island Town Council and mayor in November's general election begins July 31.

This year, the mayor's seat and council spots from Wards 2, 4 and 5 are up for grabs.

Candidates can file at Town Hall, 1 Town Center Court, between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. until Aug. 15.

Candidates can file in person or by agent. If filing in person, candidates must bring a photo ID and sign a filing form in the presence of a town employee. If filing by agent, the form must be signed in advance.

The filing fee is $50 for mayor and $35 for a council seat.

All candidates must be registered to vote in the town. Candidates running for council must live in the ward they seek to represent.
