PGA TOUR — PGA Tour

Long Cove's Nathan Stamey won the North Carolina Open in style on Thursday.

Stamey defeated Charlotte amateur Jack McGlone with a birdie on the first playoff hole at The Club at Irish Creek in Kannapolis. Stamey, a PGA apprentice assistant professional, shot rounds of 67-66-70 to post 10-under-par 203.

Stamey entered the final round with a two-stroke lead.

"I had some opportunities during the round (Thursday) and almost holed out on 9," Stamey said in a release. "I felt good going into the back, but Jake made a bunch of birdies to make a run on me. He let me back in when he missed that par putt to send the tournament into the playoff."

McGlone, a member of the University of North Carolina Greensboro golf team, finished as low amateur.

Matt Bova, a PGA professional at Haig Point, finished tied for fifth at 6 under. He shot rounds of 72-67-68.

Kannapolis resident Rick Lewallen, who played the RBC Heritage in April, finished 5 under to claim the senior purse.
