Bergdahl deserved to be left behind

newsroom@islandpacket.comJune 13, 2014

With all the other arguments, why has no one challenged the heretofore sacred rule of "No soldier left behind"? (I do, and I'm a former soldier.) Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl provides a glaring example of a soldier who should have been left behind. He deserted. Other soldiers died, apparently trying to retrieve him. And five all-star terrorists were exchanged for his release.

And all of this is going on as we commemorate thousands of true heroes who stormed the beaches of Normandy, knowing that they would probably die. I can't even imagine such bravery.
