An SUV struck the rear of a Beaufort home Monday night, causing significant damage, according to the Burton Fire District.

A Dodge Durango drove into the back of a home at 1 Taft Street at about 10 p.m. on Monday after hitting a parked Infiniti car and a Farm Bureau Insurance sign, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office report.

The female driver was sitting in a chair when deputies arrived, the report said. She was going in and out of consciousness, and was able to give deputies limited information.

The driver told deputies she was wearing her seat belt but was unsure how she crashed her vehicle, the report said.

The driver was transported to Beaufort Memorial Hospital to check for possible head and neck injuries, the report said. Her condition is unknown.

The home's residents, a couple in their 20s, were home at the time of the accident, Byrne said. They were not injured but had to be relocated. They are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.
