Gator isn't a threat; good he was left alive

newsroom@islandpacket.comJune 6, 2014

As an owner of a local property management company, I am very familiar with the gator recently caught by Joe Maffo. We have known the gator for 10 of his 50 years. Big Al (as we have come to call him) has lived in the large lagoon on the golf course behind the Legends for many years and has never posed a problem. During mating season a few years back, he traveled across Union Cemetery Road to a much smaller lagoon. It was an amazing experience to observe this beautiful armored gator up close. He was never aggressive. He visited for a week, then went back home across the road.

I feel Maffo did the right thing not to kill him as he was not aggressive. Our company has used Maffo's company, Critter Management, for the past 18 years to remove aggressive alligators. We have always found Maffo and his company professional in all regards.

Thank you, Maffo, for giving this big, old boy another chance.
