Two people were arrested and charged with cocaine trafficking in Ridgeland on Wednesday, according to the Jasper County Sheriff's Office.

Jeremiah Wilson, 32, of Pineland and Gelinda Heyward, 31, of Ridgeland were arrested during a traffic stop at the intersection of Bees Creek Road and Crabapple Lane about 9:25 a.m., Maj. Donald Hipp said. It was not clear why a deputy pulled the vehicle over, but Wilson, the driver, was charged with a third or subsequent offense of driving under suspension, according to court records.

While the pair was standing outside their vehicle being interviewed, a deputy reportedly heard Heyward say to Wilson, "Hurry up, hurry up, give it to me," Hipp said.

She may have referenced a package, Hipp said.

"The officer realized what was going on," he said.

The deputy searched both suspects and reportedly found 42 grams of cocaine in Heyward's blouse. The Ridgeland woman said it belonged to Wilson, who confirmed the drugs were his, Hipp said.

Wilson posted a $22,105 bond Thursday, according to court records. Heyward posted a $5,000 bond.
