Three Beaufort County photo clubs competed in the Tri-club photography contest in late May at Hidden Cypress in Sun City. The clubs, The Photography Club of Sun City, Camera Club of Hilton Head and Photography Club of Beaufort, submitted more than 80 photos. The Beaufort club took home 15 of the 30 awards given this year; Sun City had 10 and Hilton Head had 5.

Winners were chosen by three professional photographers: Christian Lee of Hilton Head and New York City, and Kate Silvia and Kenny McKeithan from Charleston. Awards were given in four skill levels: novice, intermediate, advanced and expert.

First Place winners in each category were as follows: Joanne B. Long of Sun City for "Mother and Child" in the novice category; Barry Wright of Beaufort for "Tracks of Time" in the intermediate category; Ellen Long of Beaufort for "A Good Smoke" in the advanced category. There was a two-way tie for first place in the expert division: John Mattson of Beaufort for "Dare to Fall" and Robert Rommel of Hilton Head for "Osprey and Flounder."

Second and third place ribbons went to Rebecca Bass, Geneva Baxley, Susan DeLoach, Russ Dimke, Sandy Dimke, Dick Eckhardt, Barbara Hazzard, Cristel Mot-Dellepoort, Paul Nurnberg and Kevin Spicer representing the Photography Club of Beaufort; Leslie Joseph, Kim Lewis, Kendra Natter and Fran Baer from the Camera Club of Hilton Head Island; and Rich DeAsla, Linda Grady, Wes Grady, Tom Hanley, Nancy Hoff, Tom Mills, Jody Paduch, Jeannine Rowe, and Chuck Thomas from the Photography Club of Sun City.
