A second suspect was charged Tuesday in a string of vehicle break-ins in Jasper and Beaufort counties, according to the Hardeeville Police Department.

Donald Chaneyfield, 17, of Hardeeville was charged with two counts of breaking into a motor vehicle and one count of possession of a controlled substance, according to court records. Chaneyfield, who was arrested Friday in Beaufort County, is accused of breaking into cars in Hardeeville's Sunset Circle community, Police Chief Sam Woodward said.

Deveon Chaneyfield, 18, of Ridgeland also was arrested in Beaufort County last week and charged with one count of possession of a stolen vehicle.

Woodward would not say if the suspects are related. He said police are working to determine whether their fingerprints match those found on dozens of other vehicles that have been stolen or broken into in Hardeeville, Okatie, Bluffton and on Hilton Head Island.

Authorities are urging residents to keep their cars locked and remove all valuables, electronics and firearms.

Donald Chaneyfield remained at the Jasper County Detention Center with bond set at $75,000, according to court records.

Deveon Chaneyfield posted a $2,000 bond the day he was arrested.
