Let's get serious about filling potholes

Hey Island Packet, how about an exclusive article on potholes?

I cannot figure out why we do not have an appropriate repair technique for filling in these holes. Two weeks ago, I saw a municipal/county worker parked on the side of U.S. 278 near the main gate of Sun City. She was there at a heavy-traffic time, throwing a shovel full of asphalt in the direction of the pot hole. Her aim was not that good, and the repair material landed on the street. I can understand her apprehension because there was a lot of traffic.

Wouldn't it seem like this job could be done at night -- where you could bring in some equipment and do the job correctly?

I would like to believe that the S.C. Department of Transportation is out there doing it right. So let's find them, and show our locals how it's done.
