Grants to fight breast cancer awarded

Two Beaufort County organizations have received grants from the Lowcountry Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure to help fund breast-health screening and diagnostic and survivor-support services.

Beaufort-Jasper-Hampton Comprehensive Health Service received a $79,360 grant and Hilton Head Island Volunteers in Medicine received $70,449, according to a Komen news release.

Through events like the Komen Lowcountry Race for the Cure, Komen Lowcountry has invested more than $5.8 million to fight breast cancer in 17 S.C. counties, the release said.
