A Hilton Head Island man reported being shot at while driving through an apartment complex Sunday afternoon, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office news release Monday.

The 27-year-old victim said someone shot at him at the Marsh Point apartment complex just before 2:30 p.m.

The victim said he and two friends were in his car, heading to an apartment to pick up a bicycle for a relative. When the shooting started, they ran from the car, the release said, and the victim said a suspect chased and shot at him.

The victim and one of the passengers were able to get a ride from another friend they saw in the area, and the victim called law enforcement when he got home.

No injuries were reported. Deputies determined that the victim's car, along with two other vehicles at the scene, had damage consistent with gunfire, the release said.

The Sheriff's Office is investigating and believes the shooting may have been in retaliation for a dispute involving the victim that occurred earlier Sunday.
