The National Weather Service in Charleston has issued a flood advisory for northern Beaufort County.

Minor flooding is possible in poorly drained areas until 5:15 p.m., according to the advisory.

National Weather Service radar showed "nearly stationary" thunderstorms with very heavy rain occurring along a line extending from the Ridgeland area to Beaufort at 4:11 p.m. today. Those storms can cause rainfall exceeding 2 inches per hour, the advisory said.

Standing water on roads can also be expected, the National Weather Service said. Motorists are advised to drive slowly, and to find an alternate route if a roadway is completely flooded.

Other affected areas include Clarendon, Ashdale and Knowles.
