The main mistake was fighting the wars

It seems the Republicans have short memories. They are reaching for anything to blame on President Obama because the basis for their election appeal is blaming him, not promising action. They blame Obama for the VA not having enough doctors to serve the veterans in time. They forget they voted against providing more money for veterans' hospitals, saying the nation had too much debt.

There's something more fundamental. It was a Republican president, George W. Bush, who convinced young men and women to risk their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan. In Iraq it was for oil rights, though they used the smoke screen of weapons of mass destruction that weren't there. They blamed 9-11 on the Afghans although the director of the attack was a Saudi, in Pakistan, whom Obama later had killed.

It's the same story -- old men sending youth out to take the risks for them, for their goals, not ours. They never thought of the thousands who would come home with damaged bodies and minds, nor the cost of medical care for them. So we end up with people hiding records to cover the fact there aren't enough doctors. Now that we're in this problem, they should give a VA hospital card to veterans that they could take to any hospital, and the government would pay the bill. But there should not be this sad need for all this care in the first place.
