Harbor River Bridge temporarily closed Tuesday

A malfunction closed the Harbor River Bridge in northeastern Beaufort County to motorists for about two hours Tuesday, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office news release.

The swing bridge reportedly did not fully lock when it opened and closed at about 11 a.m., according to county emergency management deputy director David Zeoli.

The half-mile span is the only vehicle bridge that connects St. Helena Island to Harbor Island. The 75-year-old bridge is scheduled to be replaced in 2017.
