Bumpy roads not worthy of island

newsroom@islandpacket.comMay 27, 2014

I don't want to be negative, but I agree with a letter writer's recent comments about the condition of roads in our area. Hilton Head Island is billed as being a world-class resort destination. But the roads throughout are abysmal and make the town look dated. They're not worthy of a resort destination.

Take a drive down Main Street, for example. At the west end, you will see (and feel) potholes, raised-up and cracked roads and curbs, etc. Pembroke Drive at the roundabout at Indigo Run Drive is full of potholes as is Indigo Run Drive heading to U.S. 278.

Of course, that is not nearly all that are in need of repair, just a couple that I have fallen into today. If all that is being spent on the flyover and Bluffton Parkway realigning had been put aside, the areas mentioned and many more might be in better condition.
