John Hollman

A Bluffton High School wrestling coach was arrested Saturday and charged with assault and battery, according to the Beaufort County Detention Center jail log.

John Hollman, 45, of Bluffton, was arrested after slapping a female student on the buttocks during government economics class, according to Bluffton Police Department spokesman Capt. Joseph Manning. The student complained of pain and said the contact was unwanted.

Hollman was released on a $1,092.50 bond, according to the jail log.

Hollman has been the Bobcats' only wrestling coach since the school opened in 2004. He coached wrestling at Hilton Head Island High School for four years before leaving for Bluffton.

His team defeated each of the county's other public schools this past season. The Bobcats finished 37-10, losing to Goose Creek in the first round of the Class 4-A duals tournament.

Three of Hollman's wrestlers have qualified for the Class 4-A individual state championships.
