A Bluffton mobile home was severely damaged and a shed destroyed by fire early Saturday morning, according to the Bluffton Township Fire District.

Firefighters arrived at the double-wide mobile home at 360 Shady Glen Drive about 1:45 a.m. to find smoke pouring from the roof and about half the structure on fire, spokesman Randy Hunter said.

Neighbors who smelled smoke woke the residents, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office report. No one was injured in the fire, Hunter said. The displaced residents planned to stay with friends, he said.

The fire marshal is working to determine the cause of the blaze, though a resident told deputies some children were playing with matches near the shed earlier in the evening.

The resident said she had gone outside and extinguished a small fire in the shed, but did not realize the blaze had smoldered.

The fire also damaged the neighbor's home, melting some siding, the Sheriff's Office report said.
