A Beaufort educator has been named president of the South Carolina Education Association.

Bernadette R. Hampton, a mathematics instructor and department chair at Battery Creek High School in Beaufort, will serve a four-year term as president beginning in June.

In addition to more than 20 years of classroom experience, Hampton served four years as vice president of the SCEA and was president of the Beaufort County Education Association for six years.

Hampton graduated magna cum laude in mathematics from Morris College and earned a master's degree in education from Cambridge College and a master's in teaching from the University of South Carolina.

Hampton succeeds Jackie B. Hicks, who completes her term in June.
