USCB's Triplett named 2nd team Academic All-American

USC Beaufort junior Taylor Triplett has been named a second-team selection to the Capital One Academic All-America College Division Softball Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Monday.

The Academic All-America squads are selected by college sports information directors across the nation and are meant to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performance on the field and in the classroom.

Triplett, who entered the spring semester with a 3.34 GPA in Business Administration, was selected a designated player after splitting her time between first base and DP this season. She led the Sand Sharks in batting average (.455), hits (70), home runs (10) and slugging (.727) and ranked second on the team in on-base percentage (.485) and RBIs (43).

It's the highest academic honor for a USCB student-athlete. The Sand Sharks previously have had three student-athletes named third-team Academic All-Americans -- golfers Mark Phillips and Adriana Saavedra in 2012 and softball player Maddie Byrd in 2013.
