Bluffton road project shouldn't be an option

newsroom@islandpacket.comMay 12, 2014

I am writing in support of a recent letter expressing concern that our elected officials do not listen to the public.

I would like to focus on the realignment of the Bluffton Parkway. The county will spend tens of millions of dollars to duplicate a road that already exists.

This money could be better used to replace failing existing infrastructure and to provide plantings in the medians of the newly widened U.S. 278.

Cost is certainly not the only issue as there will a negative impact on existing communities, including Rose Hill, Old Carolina and others. This road will come within a few hundred feet of the existing houses.

It appears that the developers are the only beneficiaries of this project as the realigned road will provide access to their landlocked properties.
