USCB women's golf earns fifth straight NAIA tournament bid

For the fifth consecutive year, the USC Beaufort women's golf team is headed to the NAIA National Championships.

The Sand Sharks received the second at-large bid into the 27-team field that will compete for the national title May 20 to 23 at Wilderness Ridge Golf Club in Lincoln, Neb.

USCB will enter the national championships as the No. 9 team in the nation, as first-year coach Alexis Bennett's team made the biggest leap in the national poll this week, jumping up three spots after a runner-up finish at the Sun Conference Championships.

The Sand Sharks failed to qualify for nationals in their inaugural season in 2009 but have made it every year since. Their best finish was a seventh-place showing in 2010. USCB finished 18th in 2011 and has placed 15th each of the past two years.
