Highway Patrol asks drivers to slow down

A new S.C. Highway Patrol campaign is targeting speeders through Memorial Day to raise awareness of the leading contributing factor in South Carolina wrecks.

On Friday and Monday, troopers issued 13 speeding tickets on Interstate 95 and U.S. 278 in Beaufort and Jasper counties, according to Senior Trooper Hannah Wimberly.

Throughout Troop 6, which also includes Charleston, Berkeley, Dorchester and Colleton counties, officers issued 83 speeding tickets.

Driving too fast for conditions, failing to yield right of way and improper lane changes are other top contributors to wrecks, Wimberly said.
